Easy Southern Cheese Straws

The cheese straw- as southern as boiled peanuts, sweet tea and grits!

A cocktail staple in the south, these cheese straws are addictive, savory baked crisps made from a stiff dough that's full of cheese, butter, and a pinch of cayenne.

Making these was once a way of preserving cheese in the hot and humid south. They became really popular in the fifties and early sixties and are still loved today. Bonus, they are really easy to make as well!

1 stick of butter

2 cups of shredded cheese

1 1/4 cups of flour

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
